The civil and environmental engineering that is the first among the engineering fields is the civil and environmental engineering which are necessary for human society such as bridges, high-rise buildings, tunnels, railway and high speed railway, subway, airport, nuclear power plant, harbor, road, dam, It is an academic field that researches and educates the technology for planning, designing and constructing facilities safely, economically and beautifully for water and sewage, prevention of environmental pollution, disposal of waste, disaster prevention and safety management. In this field of study, the foundation of civil engineering is established for design and construction technicians, technical administrators, researchers, professors and students who want to be a professor. Construction technology, and technology administration, basic science, and humanities and social sciences. Civil engineering is an important discipline that constitutes a social infrastructure. It has a great influence on national competitiveness and industrial development. It has a feature that various subdivisions are developed with organic association and integration.

Yonsei University expanded its traditional department of civil engineering to School of Civil and Environmental Engineering in order to take advantage of these civil and environmental engineering features. Currently, the undergraduate curriculum is divided into eight disciplines such as structural and bridge engineering, water engineering, concrete structural engineering, applied mechanics, geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, surveying and geospatial information and construction management. It is possible to acquire specialized construction techniques while cultivating the foundation of civil and environmental engineering by classifying and cultivating academic pursuit ability.
